The
Power of One
The history of SECURUS Technologies, Inc. culminates
with the merging of two correctional industry
leaders; Evercom Systems, Inc. and T-NETIX, Inc.
into the H.I.G. Capital family of companies.
Evercom Systems, Inc., formerly Talton Holdings,
was incorporated November 30, 1996 in the state
of Delaware. Over the next several years, Evercom
grew through acquisition, acquiring several inmate
telephone service providers across the United
States. Each of these companies specialized in
the inmate telephone service business.
The company’s strategy was built on becoming
the best in the business at providing correctional
industry telecommunications programs to facilities
nationwide. In 2003, Evercom expanded its focus
to include jail management programs for county
facilities.
T-NETIX, Inc. began under the name Tele-Matic
Corporation, which was incorporated under the
laws of the State of Colorado in 1986. In 1988,
Tele-Matic merged with Star Ventures, Inc. By
1992, the company had acquired eight affiliated
companies in the inmate phone business and the
inmate phone business assets of two other companies.
From its inception in August 1986 until July
1992, T-NETIX was primarily engaged in designing,
manufacturing, marketing and servicing public
payphones, including pay telephones for use in
correctional facilities. In 1991, the company
began to focus on providing specialized telecommunications
services for the inmate calling market.
On March 5, 2004, H.I.G. Capital, a Miami-based
private equity firm, announced that it has successfully
completed the tender offer for all of the outstanding
shares of common stock of T-NETIX, Inc. H.I.G.
Capital is a leading private equity and venture
capital investment firm with more than $1 Billion
of equity capital under management. H.I.G. specializes
in providing capital to small and medium-sized
companies with attractive growth potential.
On September 9, 2004, H.I.G. Capital acquired
all of the outstanding stock of Evercom Holdings,
Inc. The two companies have initially joined forces
as separate divisions operating under the SECURUS
Technologies banner. As a result of this consolidation,
SECURUS is now the largest independent provider
of collect, pre-paid and debit calling services
to local, county, state and private correctional
facilities in the United States.
SECURUS services approximately 3,300 correctional
facilities in 49 states, including locations operated
by city, county, state & federal authorities
and facilities such as juvenile detention centers
and private jails. By consistently offering unequaled
expertise, superior service and application driven
solutions, SECURUS has earned its place among
the correctional industry’s top telecommunications
and information systems providers. The company’s
sole focus is serving the highly specialized needs
of the correctional industry and to continually
strive to provide creative industry products and
solutions to its customers.
